Press Release
Bozovic at the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust and on an official visit to the American Jewish Committee
New York, January 26th, 2024
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Bozovic, had several significant meetings with representatives of the Jewish community in New York on Thursday and Friday.
The Consul General was welcomed at the American Jewish Committee, founded almost four decades ago with a mission to protect and support members of the Jewish community worldwide. Through its global network spanning six continents, this organization achieves its goals through various forms of diplomatic activities, strategic communications, and building friendly relationships with different ethnic and religious communities around the world.
Bozovic spoke to the hosts from the American Jewish Committee about the great respect and admiration he holds for the Jewish people. He agreed that in the last few decades, it has never been more important to highlight the danger of antisemitism as one of the most extreme forms of anti-civilizational social issues. He emphasized that this is a threat not only to the Jewish community but to the entire world. The hosts of the meeting were thrilled by the level of interest shown by the Consul General. They expressed great satisfaction upon hearing about the levels of security and integration of Jews in the Republic of Serbia.
The American Jewish Committee expressed readiness to connect with groups both from the Republic of Serbia and those operating within the larger Serbian diaspora who share similar goals. They also made a friendly request for Serbia to continue maintaining a strong protection for the members of the Jewish people living within the country's territory.
On Friday, the Consul General attended the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Accompanied by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations, Sasa Mart, Bozovic represented Serbia at the event. On this occasion, they paid tribute to all victims of the Holocaust worldwide, as well as to all victims of the Holocaust and genocide in the territories of both the Republic of Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.
