The first official meeting of Vladimir Bozovic and Camilla Mellander
New York, January 23rd, 2024
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Bozovic, held the first official meeting with the Consul General of Sweden in New York, Camilla Mellander.
They agreed that it is of great importance that there are no issues hindering the further development of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which simultaneously enables more intensive cooperation between the two consulates in the near future.
On behalf of the Republic of Serbia, Bozovic expressed special gratitude for Sweden being a home to a large number of Serbian citizens who, due to various circumstances, have continued their lives in one of the friendliest countries in Europe. He particularly thanked Sweden for welcoming Serbian people with open arms and praised the country for being recognized in Europe as one of the most positive examples of accepting foreign nationals and integrating them into Swedish society. He also commended the reputation of the Swedish Ambassador in Belgrade, Annika Ben David, for her dedication and commitment to Serbian society.
After expressing gratitude for Sweden's continuous support in strengthening the human rights of vulnerable groups in the Republic of Serbia, Bozovic briefed his Swedish counterpart on the priorities of his mandate in the United States. This included plans for one of the greatest scientists of all time, Nikola Tesla, to get a monument erected in New York, which Mellander viewed as a fantastic initiative.
Both agreed that the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, strongly welcomes the activities planned by the two consulates and provides his support for their implementation. Mellander informed Bozovic about the latest business trends of many large Swedish companies and their positive experiences with the city of New York.
At the end of the meeting, Bozovic and Mellander agreed to meet again soon to discuss opportunities for further collaboration in more detail.
