President of the Republic of Serbia AleksandarVučić met today the Ambassador of the United States of America, Anthony Godfrey, to discuss the continuation of the Washington Agreement implementation and European integration, as well as bilateral cooperation, especially in light of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
President Vučić said that the agreement on the normalisation of economic relations reached in Washington was complementary to the activities of the EU and a step towards the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Priština. "Serbia is always ready for an open dialogue with Priština", President Vučić pointed out.
President Vučić expressed gratitude for Washington's continuous support on the path to Serbia's full membership in the EU, which is one of its priority foreign policy goals. "American support in the process of European integration of our country is of great importance to us. The United States could suggest to its European partners that the progress of the Western Balkans in the field of European integration is necessary, primarily because of the possibility that the candidate countries will at some point feel the fatigue of the constant lack of progress. The reform of our societies is a goal in itself, but the outcome also needs to be known and clear", President Vučićemphasised.
President Vučić said that strengthening cooperation with the United States is one of the foreign policy priorities for Serbia and that he believes that the desire for stronger ties is mutual. Therefore, the President pointed out that more frequent high-level visits would confirm such a commitment of the two countries, and at the same time, he expressed hope that the American president could visit our country.
President Vučić and Ambassador Godfrey agreed that more projects of mutual interest are needed and, in this regard, pointed out the importance of engaging the regional office of the International Development Finance Corporation DFC in Belgrade.
